Nationals outfielder Juan Soto has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left shoulder. He had to be removed from the team’s initial lineup on Tuesday, so it appears that the injury became an issue shortly before first pitch.

Soto played all nine innings of the Nationals’ Monday night loss to the Cardinals, so it’s not clear when he suffered the injury. While he’s slumped a bit over the last week, the 22-year-old outfielder is off to a hot start this season, hitting .300/.410/.460 with two homers in 61 plate appearances.

Andrew Stevenson replaced Soto in the Nationals’ lineup Tuesday, while Yadiel Hernandez was recalled to take his place on the 26-man roster.
