The Dodgers placed outfielder Cody Bellinger on the injured list with a calf contusion prior to Friday’s home opener against the Nationals, calling up outfielder Luke Raley to fill his place on the 26-man active roster. The move is retroactive to April 6, so Bellinger could return in as soon as seven days, depending on how his recovery progresses.

Bellinger injured his calf on a play at first base in Monday night’s win over the Athletics and hasn’t played since. The 2019 NL MVP hit .211/.286/.368 in his first four games this season before getting hurt.

The Bellinger injury could provide an opportunity for the 26-year-old Raley, who was acquired last year from the Twins in the deal that sent Kenta Maeda to Minnesota, to make his major league debut. The Dodgers also have Mookie Betts, A.J. Pollock, Chris Taylor, Matt Beaty, and Zach McKinstry to hold down the fort in the outfield while Bellinger is out.
