Texas acquired veteran right-handed reliever Jason Grilli from the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, the team announced in a release.

Minor league outfielder Eduard Pinto will head to Toronto in the deal.

The Rangers have been linked to bullpen help, though it’s unclear whether Grilli was one of the team’s top targets. He has struggled over 20.2 innings with the Blue Jays this season, pitching to a 6.97 ERA and 7.88 FIP.

Those figures are his highest since 2016, when Grilli posted a combined 4.12 ERA between the Braves and Blue Jays.

Nonetheless, the Rangers could be optimistic Grilli can replicate the success he had last season, when he pitched to a 3.64 ERA over 42.0 innings with the Blue Jays.

Grilli is still owed about $1.4 million, but the Blue Jays are sending cash to Texas in the deal, likely to cover a fraction of his remaining salary.

Pinto, meanwhile, has appeared in 46 games for the Rangers’ High-A affiliate. He’s hitting .311/.358/.446 with four home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
