MLB trade rumors: Dodgers view Dan Straily as fallback option

It’s no secret the Dodgers are hoping to add to their starting rotation in advance of Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, with the club being linked to Yu Darvish and Sonny Gray in recent days.

However, if the Dodgers don’t want to give up the prospects required to land one of those two, they view Marlins right-hander Dan Straily as a fallback option, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.

Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald reported Saturday that the Brewers, Rockies and Royals are also interested in Straily.

The Marlins, who seem to be in sell mode after moving relievers David Phelps and A.J. Ramos, have reportedly listened to offers for Straily, who is in his first season in Miami after spending the 2016 season with the Reds.

Straily has been one of the Marlins’ most consistent starters, pitching to a 3.84 ERA and 4.38 FIP over 117.1 innings. And most notably, he is a controllable back-end starting option who won’t be eligible for free agency until 2021.

Straily isn’t the top-tier starter that Gray or Darvish have proven to be, but he could be slotted in the back of Los Angeles’ rotation if the Dodgers continue their pursuit.

The Dodgers have had their fair share of injuries—Clayton Kershaw and Brandon McCarthy are both on the disabled list—so adding any pitcher to the rotation could prove to be valuable.

Nonetheless, Straily seems to be available at perhaps a lower price.
